We’re excited to share some truly historic news for the audiology profession in Australia!
Following years of persistent advocacy, Health Ministers have officially agreed to regulate audiology under the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS). This milestone decision was announced at the Health Ministers’ Meeting in Perth on Friday, 12 September 2025.
This change brings audiology into alignment with other nationally registered health professions, ensuring consistency, accountability, and improved public safety in hearing care across Australia.
Why This Matters
For too long, audiology has operated without the national regulation seen in other allied health fields. This has created variability in standards and, at times, confusion for patients seeking care.
National registration will:
Provide greater public protection by ensuring all practicing audiologists meet consistent, high-level standards
Strengthen professional recognition within the broader healthcare system
Support transparency and trust for patients and families
Establish a clear, unified framework for the future of the profession
This is a huge win for both audiologists and the communities we serve.
